PATIENT PERSPECTIVE

ECCO Patient Advisory Committee (PAC)

Following the adoption of the ECCO Statutes in September 2015 (cf above new ECCO statutes) the Chair of the Patient Advisory Committee (PAC), Ian Banks, now has a seat with voting rights on the ECCO Board.

Patient advocacy organisations on the list approved by the ECCO Board on 1 September 2015 meeting were invited to nominate a representative to sit on the new ECCO PAC for the period of February 2016  to February 2018.

Sixteen organisations will be represented on the ECCO PAC reflecting the full breadth of patient advocacy groups working across Europe in line with ECCO’s vision. The first meeting of this enlarged group will take place in Brussels on 16 February 2016. We thank the organisations who nominated representatives to the PAC.

We also thank sincerely the PAC which has been working very hard under the strong leadership of Ian Banks since 2012.

QUALITY CANCER CARE, ONCOPOLICY

What to look forward to in 2016

Based on the September decisions of the ECCO Board, we look forward to the start of concrete work towards defining care delivery procedures and quality performance indicators (QPI) for certain tumour types. For each tumour type, starting with ovarian cancer, a dedicated working group will define the priorities, the areas of ECCO work according to the level of involvement needed, and identify the concrete engagement from relevant Member Societies as well as a project leader. The ECCO Patient Advisory Committee will be invited to contribute  to this activity for which the process will be defined as part of the next practical steps.

Meanwhile, in the oncopolicy area of work, we are looking forward to a meeting of the Oncopolicy Task Force on 19 January 2016. This meeting aims to prepare the first meeting of the ECCO Oncopolicy Committee on 9 February 2016. The ECCO Patient Advisory Committee Chair has been invited to participate in these meetings.
