The International Union Against Cancer (UICC) is the only international non-governmental organisation dedicated exclusively to the global control of cancer.

Founded in 1933, it is an independent association of over 280 member organizations in 90 countries. UICC brings together individuals in the global campaign against cancer from a wide range of organisations including advocacy groups, patient survivor support networks, voluntary cancer societies, public health authorities and research and treatment centres, and in some countries, ministries of health.

UICC’s mission is to build and lead the global cancer control community engaged in:

• sharing and exchanging cancer control knowledge and competence equitably,
• transferring scientific findings to clinical settings,
• systematically reducing and eventually eliminating disparities in prevention, early detection, treatment and care of cancers,
• delivering the best possible care to all people living with cancer.

The UICC ‘s focus is on four strategic directions:

• Cancer prevention and control,
• Tobacco control, - Knowledge transfer,
• Capacity building and supportive care.

All UICC activities have been developed and are managed around these four strategic directions: the World Cancer Campaign, the World Cancer Congress, the Fellowship Programmes, the Global Cancer Control Community, Globalink.

The World Cancer Congress, held every two years, brings together the world’s leaders in the fight to control cancer.

Leading clinicians, practitioners, government agencies and NGOs, patient-care providers and advocates, researches and behavioural scientists and public health experts focus on transforming the latest knowledge into strategies that countries, communities, institutions and individuals can employ to reduce the cancer burden.
