Patrick Schöffski is Head of both the Department of General Medical Oncology and the Laboratory of Experimental Oncology at the University Hospitals Leuven, Catholic University Leuven, Belgium.
Until October 2009, he was Secretary-General of the Executive Committee and Board of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). Recently he has been appointed Chairman of the Clinical Research Division of EORTC and member of the Board of Directors of the European Cancer Organisation (ECCO).
He is a member of many scientific societies including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), American Society of Hematology (ASH), European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), German Society of Hematology and Oncology (DGHO) and Belgian Society for Medical Oncology (BSMO).
Professor Schöffski’s main scientific interest is the treatment of solid tumours and lymphomas. He also coordinates translational research projects associated with new drug development.
He has been involved in registrational trials of antitumour agents in gastrointestinal stromal tumours and soft tissue sarcoma, and leads several sarcoma research projects for the Connective Tissue Cancers Network (CONTICANET), a Network of Excellence funded by the European Commission’s Sixth Framework Programme. Professor Schöffski has published widely in international peer-reviewed oncology journals.
