Postgraduate Training Curricula

Cancer treatment requires multidisciplinary collaboration between many specialties. In Europe, there are no uniform systems for the training of oncology specialists.

Several European societies have developed recommended core curricula for their respective disciplines including those representing the three major specialties: medical oncology, surgical oncology and radiation oncology:

Recommendations for a Global Core Curriculum in Medical Oncology, ESMO/ASCO Task Force on Global Curriculum in Medical Oncology

Recommended Core Curriculum for the specialist Training in Surgical Oncology within Europe, a proposal by the Education and Training Committee of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO)

Recommended Curriculum for the Specialist Training of Medical Practitioners in Radiotherapy (Radiation Oncology) within Europe, European Core Curriculum for Radiotherapists Working Party on the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology and the European Board of Radiotherapy
