Professor, Chair of Gastroenterology and Director of the Department of Internal Medicine IV

 

Dr. Patrick Michl is a full Professor and Chair of Gastroenterology (W3) at the University of Heidelberg, where he's been leading the Department of Internal Medicine IV since 2022. He earned his MD from LMU Munich in 1999 after passing the Medicine Board exam in 1998. Previously, he held the position of Full Professor and Chair of Gastroenterology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg from 2015 to 2022, and before that, he excelled as the Vice Dean for Research at the same institution from 2018 to 2022.

Dr. Michl has not only excelled in academics but has also been devoted to nurturing young researchers. He has mentored several early career scientists, including postdocs, PhD students, and MD students.

His expertise is recognized by significant funding and grants, including a recent major project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), focusing on early pancreatic inflammation triggers. Dr. Michl has taken leadership roles in prestigious academic associations such as the European Pancreatic Club and the United European Gastroenterology Association. His involvement as an editorial board member for respected journals like "Gut" and "Digestion," along with his contributions to expert committees, underscores his commitment to advancing medical understanding and healthcare strategies.
