Evidence Based Cancer Care and Research: the role of systematic reviews

People working in cancer care often feel overwhelmed by new research findings, which are being produced at an ever-increasing rate. This workshop will provide some of the skills to cope with this, primarily through the conduct and use of systematic reviews; and will show how these reviews can also be a key part of the research process itself. The workshop provides an opportunity to find out more about how systematic reviews can help throughout the process of cancer care and research, from the bench to the bedside. It will involve a combination of lectures and small group activities to cover topics such as the identification of candidate therapies and stratified or individualised medicine, interlaced with teaching on the conduct and use of systematic reviews. There will be ample opportunity for discussion during the course, both within the small groups and in the lectures, and the topics to be covered in depth will be selected for their relevance to the participants. The Faculty will include international recognised experts in cancer research and systematic reviews, from Queen's University Belfast and elsewhere in Europe.
