European Cancer Control Summit

EUROCOURSE, an EU-funded Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) project, has been a welcome boost for European population-based cancer registries and their programme owners since 2009, benefitting both current and future cancer patients. On 23-24 November, Prof. Jan-Willem Coebergh, Coordinator of this 3-year project, brought together project partners as well as the wider cancer community to discuss issues such as confidentiality, the dissemination of best practise, improving collaboration through ERA networks, biobanking in translational research and support for European comparative studies and mass screening programmes all aim to improve and progress registry coverage in Europe.

World Cancer Day 2011

ECL – the Association of European Cancer Leagues, ECCO – the European CanCer Organisation and UICC - the Union for International Cancer Control, are working in partnership to call for concerted action on cancer at EU level.   Kindly hosted by MEP Ms. Glenis Willmott, this event aims to drive real progress in order to curb the cancer epidemic, particularly in the area of prevention.

European Health Forum Gastein - ECCO Dinner Workshop 2009

Cancer is a major cause of ill health within the EU, yet co-ordinated attempts to tackle it have
been thin on the ground until now. At a dinner workshop at the European Health Forum
Gastein*, speakers from the European CanCer Organisation (ECCO), set out their plans to
tackle this anomaly and to promote collaborative action between all players in the field of
oncology – patients, scientists, doctors, and carers.
