Scientific Challenges in Breast Cancer Treatment
Time: 14 Sept at 14:00 Location: Sala 1
Personalised medicine for cancer patients aims to tailor the best treatment options for the individuals. Management of breast cancer has changed in the last decades by the progressive understanding of the biologic concepts that surround this disease. Surgical treatment of breast cancer has evolved to more conservative approaches with equal patient´s outcomes. Patients are counseled about genetic testing and discovering a mutation can guide changes in treatment and prevention. More and more it is desirable to have minimally invasive ways to determine tumour molecular characterisation. Liquid biopsies have arrived to fill this gap and its importance relies on how the genetic profile of breast cancer allows for screening, monitoring treatment response and detection of minimal residual disease. This session covers this multidisciplinary effort to progress in the management of breast cancer.
