NEWS: New ECCO CEO – Birgit Beger

Brussels, 25 February 2016 – ECCO announces today that Birgit Beger steps in as its CEO on 1 March 2016.

Birgit Beger has more than thirteen years of public affairs experience in Brussels and an impressive track record in European health policy and federation management.

Professor Peter Naredi, ECCO President, said: “We are very excited to welcome Birgit to ECCO.  Our organisation is working towards ambitious goals in oncopolicy, quality cancer care and our annual European Cancer Congress.  Birgit’s leadership talent and rich European policy experience are exactly what we need to achieve these goals.”

Birgit Beger said: “ECCO’s unique vision is to improve outcomes for all cancer patients in Europe through multidisciplinarity of European cancer professionals.  I am honoured and inspired by the opportunity to effectively ameliorate the life of cancer patients and very much look forward to becoming part of ECCO’s innovative leadership team.”

Birgit Beger was Secretary General of the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME) for over 5 years.  Before her post as CPME Secretary General, she was Senior Legal advisor at the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) responsible inter alia for Information Technology Law and European Contract Law.  Birgit Beger is a registered lawyer in Berlin and Brussels and holds masters in law and political science from the Freie Universität Berlin.
